A Process of Conversion

OCIA is a structured program designed to accompany individuals on their journey of conversion to Catholicism.

For Adults

It's specifically for adults who are not yet baptized, those baptized in another Christian tradition, and baptized Catholics who have no completed their initiation (e.g., haven't received Confirmation or Eucharist).

Stages of Formation

OCIA involves distinct stages, including inquiry, catechesis (religious instruction), discernment, and liturgical celebrations, culminating in   the reception of sacraments.

Emphasis on Personal Journey

It recognizes that each individuals faith journey is unique and provides a supportive environment for spiritual growth.

Focus on Encounter with God

The process aims to foster a personal encounter with God and a deeper understanding of the Catholic faith.

Key Elements of OCIA:

Inquiry and Evangelization

The initial stage involves exploring questions about the Catholic faith and learning about its basic teachings.

Catechesis

Participants receive religious instruction on Catholic doctrines, practices, and the Church's teachings.

Liturgical Celebrations

Certain rites, like the Rite of Acceptance, Rite of Election, and celebrations during Lent and Easter, mark the different stages of the process.

Sacraments of Initiation

The culmination of OCIA is the reception of Baptism (if not previously received), Confirmation, and First Holy Communion (Eucharist).

Mystagogy

A period of reflection and deepening of faith after the sacraments are received.

Who might be interested in OCIA?

  - Those who have never been baptized and wish to become Catholic.

  - Individuals baptized in other Christian denominations who wish to become Catholic.

  - Adult Catholics who have not completed their initiation.

  - Those seeking to deepen their understanding of the Catholic faith, regardless of their current status.

  -  In essence, OCIA is a welcoming and supportive pathway for adults to explore, learn, and ultimately embrace the Catholic faith.
